A delegation from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and the Universiti Malaya Halal Research Centre (UMHRC) visited GIMDES to conduct a field study in Türkiye for the purpose of cooperation within the scope of Malaysia’s new National Halal Policy.
JAKIM held a series of meetings with GIMDES to develop Malaysia’s national halal policy in line with global standards. Delegation members stated that they considered this visit as an important step to understand halal standards in Türkiye, examine regional best practices in the Halal and Tayyib food and supplies sector, and strengthen Malaysia’s halal ecosystem.
The delegation was led by project coordinator Zaaba bin Zakaria on behalf of JAKIM. UMHRC researchers also took an active role in the field study. The information gathered will be used in the development of Malaysia’s new national halal policy.
The meetings and information exchanges played an important role in deepening cooperation between Malaysia and Türkiye on certification systems. JAKIM officials said they aim to use the information they have acquired to take innovative steps to align Malaysia’s Halal and Tayyib policies with regional and international standards.
