ISLAM AND WOMEN

Dr. Hüseyin Kami Büyüközer

In Islam, the rights and empowerment of women were enjoined 1400 years ago, freeing them from oppression and discrimination and ensuring that they take their rightful place in society with dignity.

“Paradise is under the feet of mothers”, said the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).  Among the names that transmitted this hadith are Bukhari, Muslim, and Tabrizi.

The verse in which Allah Almighty describes her as her husband’s garment and protector is also given in the Holy Qur’an.
“… your wives are a garment for you and you are a garment for them..” Al-Baqarah/187”

A libas protects, conceals, comforts, honors, and adorns, just as wives are to their husbands and husbands to their wives.

Our Prophet (PBUH) taught us that: “Everything in this world is a (temporary) pleasure, but there is no better worldly pleasure than a righteous wife” (Muslim)

Muslim women bear a sacred responsibility in motherhood and as the sultan of the home, they advocate for Halal consumption, a Divine commandment. As a Halal certification authority, through our Halal Helpline, we witness first-hand through GIMDES the impact of women learning about Halal products and enabling the growth of women-led home industries and entrepreneurship.

Our home industries are often the brainchild of entrepreneurial housewives who use their productivity and talents to supplement the household income in these times of ever-increasing cost of living. GIMDES supports and promotes hundreds of home industry endeavors through its certification system and intensive activities to inform and educate our women and children.

A woman turns a house into a home, raises the next generation, and is the foundation of every successful society. We appreciate the unsung heroes – mothers, wives daughters, and sisters – who make a difference in our lives everyday. We salute our women who play an important role in the upliftment of their families and wider society. We are grateful for all you have done and continue to do!
