KNOW THAT VICTORY COMES WITH PATIENCE! Authentic Hadith-Tirmidhi

Dr. Hüseyin Kami BÜYÜKÖZER

O believers! Seek comfort in patience and prayer. Allah is truly with those who are patient. (Surah Al-Baqarah / Verse 153)”

“˹It is they˺ who are patient, sincere, obedient, and charitable, and who pray for forgiveness before dawn.1 (Surah Ali ‘Imran/ Verse 17)”

Patience means to be patient in the face of all kinds of difficulties we will encounter in our work, to endure pain and difficulties with composure, and to be steadfast on the path shown by reason and religion.

Since it encompasses all moral beauties, patience has a very high place in our religion. Patience is a blessed moral quality that will ensure divine approval.

In religion and morality, patience means remaining calm and surrendering to Haqq without losing balance in the face of unpleasant and painful events. Imam Nawawi says the following on this issue:

“Patience is compelling the soul to do what is commanded. This is achieved by enduring the hardships and troubles of worship.”

In the face of events that require patience, we must use our moral qualities such as forgiveness, hilm (gentleness), tawazo(modesty), iffat(chastity), contentment, compassion, mercy, nazakat(kindness), and musamaha(tolerance), which are spiritual qualities.

Good morals are the foundation of religion. Patience is the center of gravity of good morals, half of faith, the key to comfort and sa’adat(happiness), a great virtue that leads to the blessings of Paradise. Since all kinds of goodness and high gains are in patience, first and foremost the Ulu’l-Azm Prophets, all the Anbiya, awliya (saints) and ulama (scholars) have made patience their profession.
