In the past years, as GIMDES Halal Food Volunteers prepared and sent a very beautiful and emotional letter to our mosque imams. Let’s present this letter, prepared by our youth, to all our volunteer brothers, sisters and mosque imams in our neighborhood and district this Ramadan. You will find this letter from our youth in the continuation of this article. May Allah accept your good deeds.
Assalamu alaikum Dear Sir, We, as GIMDES Halal Food Volunteers, are troubled young people who aim to implement the verses of “Eat from whatever is on earth [that is] Halal and Tayyip” commanded in the Qur’an, and who aim to convey this to the entire Islamic world. We expect support from you, our esteemed teachers, for the al amr bil ma’roof and nahi anil munkar we have done on this path. Because it is one of the most basic rights and most important servitude duties of a person to eat and drink according to his belief and to know whether there is alcohol and pork products in the products that producers use. The following hadith, which we have chosen among dozens of divine orders about Halal food, will summarize our problem and the time we are in:
“A time will come when man will not care if what he buys is Halal or Haram. None of their prayers will be accepted.” (Bukhari)
Today, in medicine and the food industry, three thousand five hundred types of additives, such as lice, crab feet, blood, human hair, pig stomach and pig hair, are marketed to be added to our food in the world market. While the producer companies use these additives, which may be Haram or suspicious, “with a thump”, as if they want to respond to the same speed, unconscious consumers consume these suspicious and even Haram foods. Inspection and control of all these additives that enters Türkiye are carried out according to the Turkish Food Codex, but this codex completely consists according to European standards and there is no religious concept such as “Halal-Haram” in its content. In other words, compliance with the law does not necessarily mean compliance with religion. In today’s world, when there is a lot of questionable food, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, ” The halal (lawful) is clear and the haram (prohibited) is clear, and between them are unclear matters that are unknown to most people. Whoever is wary of these unclear matters, has absolved his religion and honor. And whoever indulges in them, has indulged in the haram (prohibited).It is like a shepherd who herds his sheep too close to a preserved sanctuary, and they will eventually graze in it. [Bukhari, Muslim] It is extremely important to act according to the hadith al-sheriff.
When the name of Halal food was not heard in Türkiye and no one was around, GIMDES was established in 2005 to put an end to this food terror and started the first Halal food studies in Türkiye. GIMDES is the most reliable institution that sets standards in accordance with the Quran’s “Halalan Tayyiban” order and Islamic Fiqh. It has a Fiqh committee made up of Ahl al-Sunnah teachers and a scientific technical committee consisting of specialized food engineers, chemists, veterinarians, and agriculturalists. The certificate is issued with a very strict control, considering the Halalness, health, quality, hygiene, fraudulence and ethical status of the product. After the certificate is issued, unannounced inspections are carried out and when necessary they (slaughterhouses) are constantly monitored with a 7/24 camera system.
It is not enough for one or two people to shout for the awakening in food. We need to wake up as a society, be informed and seek our rights. Otherwise, we have to continue living this humiliation. For this purpose, as Halal food volunteers, we invite you, our valuable teachers, to raise awareness of the Ummah. For the vitality of an Islamic life, we would like you to explain the verses and hadiths about Halal food, the fiqh rules that formed by the ijtihad of scholars and the effect of eating Haram bites on both health and character, and to direct that people to GIMDES for more information. While the first test of humanity with Hadrat Adam (pbuh) was Halal food and even the water we drink was contaminated with Haram, we do not have the luxury of being lethargy.
