Muhammed Emin Yurtçu expressed the importance of Halal and Tayyib but explained that Muslim consumers are not conscious of what they consume. He added that some of the Islamic scholars permit the Dharura (necessity) more than necessary, and the reason for this is that scholars may be competent in Islamic science but some of them are very uninformed about modern production technologies. According to Yurtçu, those scholars only look at the Islamic side of the matter but in this age of fast development, they have to really understand the technology and process and then give fatwahs. Yurtçu said they would cooperate with GIMDES for the enlightenment of Muslim students of medicine and pharmaceutics.
Dr. Buyukozer, GIMDES President, said that most of the medicines like syrups, creams, and medicines contain non-Halal material and because of lack of knowledge of Muslims in Halal matters, Muslim patients consume whatever their doctors prescribe for them. Dr. Buyukozer added that both the patients and all workers (doctors, nurses, caregivers) in medical sciences should be enlightened for what is Halal and what is not.
